Warmth Against the Cold: A Story of Care from the Tents

In the north of the Gaza Strip, where war has forced thousands of families to seek refuge in fragile tents, winter brings an additional struggle—cold that seeps through fabric walls and reaches the smallest bodies first. Amid these harsh realities, Al‑Amal Society for Women and Child continues its humanitarian mission, standing beside displaced families with care, dignity, and compassion.

During the ongoing war, the Society implemented its Winter Clothes and Footwear Distribution Project, targeting displaced children and women living in displacement camps. The project was designed to respond to urgent winter needs while addressing health risks caused by cold weather, overcrowding, and limited access to basic services.

The intervention followed a carefully planned process. It began with sourcing appropriate winter clothing and footwear suitable for different ages and needs. Each item was selected with attention to warmth, comfort, and durability; essential qualities for families living in tents under extreme conditions. Once secured, all clothing underwent thorough cleaning and hygiene procedures, ensuring that every piece met health and safety standards, especially for children vulnerable to illness.

After cleaning, items were carefully sorted and packed into organized parcels, taking into account family size, age groups, and specific needs. This stage was carried out with great care, as the Society believes that humanitarian aid should preserve dignity, not merely meet basic needs. Every parcel represented respect, thoughtfulness, and a sense of care extended to each family.

Beyond distribution, the project included awareness sessions for mothers, focusing on child care during winter. These sessions addressed how to keep children warm inside tents, recognize early signs of cold-related illnesses, and maintain hygiene in difficult living environments. Supporting mothers with knowledge was a vital part of helping children grow in a healthier and safer way, despite displacement.

In camps where comfort is scarce and uncertainty is constant, this project offered more than clothing. It offered warmth that could be felt, care that could be trusted, and reassurance that displaced families are not forgotten. Through this intervention, Al-Amal Society reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and women and restoring a sense of humanity; even in the coldest of times.
