When Water Becomes Life: A Daily Journey of Hope to the Camps

In the north of the Gaza Strip, where famine and war have stripped daily life of its most basic necessities, access to clean drinking water has become a daily struggle for displaced families. Inside overcrowded displacement camps, thousands of people rely on unsafe or limited water sources, placing children, women, and the elderly at constant risk. In the face of this crisis, Al-Amal Society for Women and Child continues its humanitarian mission, delivering life-saving water with care and dignity.

During the ongoing famine and conflict, the Society implemented a Daily Water Trucking Project, ensuring the regular distribution of safe, drinkable water to displacement camps across northern Gaza. The project was designed as an emergency response to severe water shortages, aiming to protect public health and reduce the spread of waterborne diseases.

The process begins long before the water reaches the camps. Drinkable water is sourced from approved and monitored supply points, selected carefully to meet basic safety standards despite the challenging conditions. Before each delivery, water tanks and trucks undergo thorough cleaning and disinfection to prevent contamination. This step is essential, as clean containers are just as important as clean water.

Once sanitized, the tanks are filled under supervision to ensure quality and proper handling. Each load is carefully sealed to protect the water during transport through damaged roads and insecure areas. The trucks then begin their journey toward the displacement camps, often navigating difficult routes to reach families waiting in need.

Upon arrival, distribution is carried out in an organized and respectful manner. Water is delivered directly to collection points within the camps, allowing families to safely fill their containers. Priority is given to households with children, elderly members, and individuals facing health challenges. Volunteers remain present throughout the process to ensure fairness, manage flow, and support those unable to carry water themselves.

This daily intervention goes beyond meeting a physical need. For families living in tents under extreme conditions, the arrival of water trucks brings relief, reassurance, and a sense of stability. It represents a moment when survival feels possible, even if only for another day.

In a place where water has become a symbol of life itself, this project delivers more than hydration. It restores dignity, protects health, and reinforces the message that displaced families are not alone. Through its Water Trucking Project, Al-Amal Society continues to stand beside communities in crisis, carrying hope, one drop at a time, even amid famine and war.
