The ongoing war in Gaza has left deep scars on families, but none more vulnerable than the children. Beyond the loss of homes, schools, and loved ones, many children face invisible wounds, fear, anxiety, and trauma that threaten their sense of safety and hope. Recognizing this urgent need, Al-Amal Society for Women and Children has been at the forefront of implementing a Psychosocial Support (PSS) project, designed to heal hearts and restore resilience in the youngest victims of war.
At the core of this project is the creation of safe spaces where children can find refuge from the chaos around them. These spaces provide structured activities—play therapy, group games, drawing, storytelling, and creative expression—that allow children to process their emotions in healthy ways. Through play and interaction, they begin to rebuild trust, regain confidence, and feel the comfort of being children again, even if only for a moment.
The program also provides emotional counseling and support sessions led by trained facilitators who understand the unique psychological challenges of children living under conflict. By listening, encouraging, and guiding them, Al-Amal staff help children cope with fear, grief, and uncertainty. This not only reduces symptoms of trauma but also strengthens their ability to adapt and thrive in the face of adversity.
Importantly, the PSS project extends its reach to families, empowering parents, especially mothers, to better support their children. Awareness sessions and counseling for caregivers help families learn how to recognize stress in their children and provide the reassurance and love they need at home. In this way, the project strengthens the entire family unit, making resilience a shared journey.
The impact of this project has been profound. Children who once showed signs of withdrawal, aggression, or despair now smile, laugh, and play again. Families express gratitude for the support that has given their children not only relief but also hope for the future. In a place where war threatens to steal childhood itself
Al-Amal Society’s PSS project is a lifeline, restoring dignity, healing invisible wounds, and planting seeds of resilience for a brighter tomorrow.
