War not only destroys buildings; it shatters hearts, minds, and childhoods. In Gaza, children living in displacement camps face not just hunger and cold, but also the silent pain of trauma—nightmares, fear, and a loss of the joy that should fill their early years. To bring light into this darkness, Al-Amal Society for Women and Children launched a Psychosocial Support (PSS) project, offering children a safe environment where they can heal emotionally, express their feelings, and begin to recover from the horrors of war.
The Challenge
Implementing this project was far from easy. The scale of trauma was overwhelming; children who had lost parents, siblings, and homes carried unimaginable grief. Many were withdrawn, refusing to speak or play. The lack of safe spaces, limited resources, and the constant threat of bombardment made it extremely difficult to reach the children in need. At times, our staff themselves were struggling with their own trauma, yet still stood strong to support the little ones.
The Solution
Despite the challenges, Al-Amal Society found ways to keep hope alive. We trained dedicated counselors and volunteers to provide group therapy sessions, art and play activities, and one-on-one emotional support for children most in need. Simple tools—like drawing, storytelling, and games- became powerful outlets for children to process their pain. We also worked closely with families, helping parents learn how to comfort their children and rebuild a sense of safety in the midst of chaos. These efforts transformed empty tents and shelters into spaces of healing, learning, and laughter.
The Outcome
The impact of this project has been nothing short of life-changing. We watched children who had been silent begin to share their stories through drawings and words. We saw their eyes brighten as they joined group games, and laughter once again echoed through the camps. Mothers told us their children were sleeping better, crying less, and even asking to learn and play again. These moments remind us that even in war, healing is possible.
Our Message for you
But the need continues to grow, and thousands more children are waiting for a chance to find peace amidst the chaos. Your support can help us expand this project, reaching more young hearts with the care and comfort they deserve. Every donation brings not only psychosocial support sessions but also the promise of hope, resilience, and a brighter tomorrow for Gaza’s children.
