In the north of the Gaza Strip, where famine and war have reshaped everyday life, displaced families struggle to secure even the simplest form of nourishment. Inside overcrowded displacement camps, fresh food has become increasingly rare, while children and women bear the heaviest burden of hunger and poor nutrition. In the midst of these hardships, Al-Amal Society for Women and Child continues its humanitarian mission, delivering care where it is needed most.
During the ongoing famine and conflict, the Society implemented a Vegetable and Fruit Baskets Distribution Project, targeting displaced families living in camps across northern Gaza. The project aimed to provide families with access to fresh, nutritious food at a time when markets are scarce, prices are unaffordable, and malnutrition is rapidly increasing.
The project followed a carefully organized process from beginning to end. It started with sourcing fresh vegetables and fruits from available local suppliers, prioritizing quality and nutritional value despite severe shortages. Each item was selected with care to ensure it could support balanced meals, especially for children, pregnant women, and those suffering from health complications related to food deprivation.
Once collected, all produce underwent a thorough sorting process. Damaged items were removed, and the remaining vegetables and fruits were carefully cleaned to ensure safety and hygiene. Teams then prepared the baskets by hand, arranging the contents in a balanced and thoughtful manner. Each basket was packed to meet the basic dietary needs of a family, reflecting the Society’s belief that food assistance should be both practical and dignified.
After packing, the baskets were securely sealed and organized for transport. Distribution was carried out directly inside the displacement camps, following an orderly and respectful approach that prioritized vulnerable households. Volunteers worked closely with community members to ensure fair access and smooth delivery, minimizing waiting times and preserving the dignity of beneficiaries.
Beyond addressing hunger, the project carried a deeper meaning. For families living in tents, receiving fresh vegetables and fruits was not just about food—it was a reminder of care, normalcy, and human connection in an environment defined by loss and uncertainty.
In places where survival has become a daily challenge, these baskets brought more than nourishment. They carried reassurance, compassion, and a message that displaced families are not forgotten. Through this initiative, Al-Amal Society reaffirmed its commitment to standing beside communities in crisis, delivering hope, basket by basket, even amid famine and war
